EXODUS Guitarist Comments On DISNEY 'Ban'
April 1, 2013Guitarist Gary Holt of San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal veterans EXODUS spoke to OC Weekly about the band's absence from the March 22 stop of the third annual Metal Alliance Tour at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, California.
EXODUS now finds itself among a list of several other heavy metal bands being banned by the Disney Corporation, including MACHINE HEAD, DAATH, SNOT, THE FACELESS and GALLOWS.
"I think it's pretty funny, because CRADLE OF FILTH was booked to play there and those other Disney-owned venues, before their whole tour was canceled just recently," said Holt. "I didn't hear Disney banning that band, and their most famous t-shirt has huge block letters on it that says 'Jesus is a Cunt,' and that was OK!"
He added: "I think maybe they're more afraid of the audience more than anything; I don't know. Yeah we do have a lot of violent songs but also our songs, but a lot of our songs have a good message if you listen to the lyrics. I think they're afraid of the 'wall of death'."
(LAMB OF GOD singer Randy Blythe, who was acquitted of manslaughter last month in connection with the death of a fan at the band's concert in the Czech Republic more than two years ago, is famous in metal circles for orchestrating the "wall of death" in which vast crowds split into two groups and then charge each other like a battle in the movie "Braveheart".)
The Walt Disney Company previously banned MACHINE HEAD from performing at a House Of Blues venue in Florida in December 2012 as well as in two separate House Of Blues venues in 2007, allegedly due to the band's "violent imagery," "inflammatory lyrics" and the group's "undesirable fans."
